Missing boy found safe

Missing Wellington 12-year-old William Walmsley has been found safe and taken home to his relieved parents but some of the circumstances surrounding his absence remain unknown.

He was last seen in the central city about midnight on Saturday, but last night made contact with a friend saying he was OK.

His father Andrew Walmsley said the police had found William on Tuesday and brought him home.

Walmsley said William was found in Lower Hutt about 4pm on Tuesday.

Driver rams crowd, killing 11

Canadian prosecutors have charged a 30-year-old Vancouver resident with murder for killing at least 11 people aged between five and 65 and injuring dozens after he rammed a vehicle through a crowd at a Filipino community festival in the western Canadian city, police said. Wild weather hits swathes of NZ

Severe weather warnings are in place across New Zealand, with heavy downpours prompting a state of emergency in Christchurch, while “destructive” gales have been recorded in the capital, Wellington. Diver survives great white shark attack

A diver is recovering well after being bitten by a shark at Dusky Sound in Fiordland National Park. The man had been diving from a charter boat, and was flown by helicopter to Southland Hospital in Invercargill in a moderate condition, about 5:30pm on Thursday. A Pure Salt Charters spokesperson said it was presumed a great white shark was responsible for the attack, although they were rarely in the area. The diver was bitten on the calf, and he and a dive buddy saw the shark clearly after the bite, and described it as a great white, Pure Salt Charters’ Maria Kuster told the NZ Herald: ”It was one bite and let go.“
