Passenger films Delta plane landing with damaged wing

A passenger has filmed a Delta plane landing with a damaged wing in Austin.

Footage captured from the passenger’s window on Tuesday showed a dislodged piece of the plane’s left wing.

According to local media, Delta flight 1893 departed Orlando on a regular flight and landed safely in Austin. The aircraft was later taken out of service for maintenance, according to reports.

The date and location of the footage was verified from a statement released by the airline.

Man arrested in hunt for gunman

A 61-year-man has been arrested and interviewed by detectives investigating the whereabouts of a dangerous fugitive accused of killing two police officers. The hunt for alleged gunman Dezi Freeman is in its fifth day with hundreds of police continuing to scour Victoria’s high country wilderness amid strong winds and chilly conditions. Freeman, 56, fled into the bush on Tuesday following a fatal confrontation at a property in Porepunkah, about 300km northeast of Melbourne.

Did Russia jam plane radar?

A plane carrying European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was hit by GPS jamming over Bulgaria in a suspected Russian operation, a spokesperson said Monday. The plane landed safely in Plovdiv airport and von der Leyen will continue her planned tour of the European Union’s nations bordering Russia and Belarus, said the commission’s spokesperson Arianna Podestà.

Talks aim to counter US influence

The leaders of Russia, China, India and seven other nations are meeting in northern China for the latest annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in what could be an emerging challenge to America’s global leadership. The 10-member SCO, which gathered in the port city of Tianjin, has grown in size and influence since its founding 24 years ago, even while its goals and programs remain murky and name recognition low. The full membership includes Russia, Belarus, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Originally seen as a foil to US influence in Central Asia, the original organization picked up four new members with the addition of India and Pakistan in 2017, Iran in 2023 and Belarus in 2024.

Gunman opens fire on school church

Two children were killed and 17 other people were wounded at a Minneapolis Catholic school when a shooter opened fire on students attending Mass on the third day of school, authorities said. The assailant fired through the school’s chapel windows at students sitting in pews, officials said. The children killed were 8 years old and 10 years old, they said. It’s the latest effort by the South Florida Water Management District to eliminate as many pythons as possible from the Everglades, where they are decimating native species with their voracious appetites. In Everglades National Park, officials say the snakes have eliminated 95 per cent of small mammals as well as birds.

Sonic drones defend cattle from wolves

For millennia humans have tried to scare wolves away from their livestock. Most of them didn’t have drones. But a team of biologists working near the California-Oregon border do, and they’re using them to blast AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck,” movie clips and live human voices at the apex predators to shoo them away from cattle in an ongoing experiment. In another clip, the voice of actor Scarlett Johansson yells a clip from one of her films: “I am not putting up with this anymore!”
